At today’s session of the Executive Board of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, a decision was made on the recipients of the most prestigious sports awards for 2025.
From a total of 15 nominated male and female candidates, the Management Board decided that the award for the Best Athlete of Montenegro in 2025 be awarded to taekwondo athlete Andrea Berišaj.
On this occasion, the Management Board of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee also confirmed the decision of the Commission for the Selection of the Best Young Athletes and National Teams, which, in line with the submitted nominations and achieved results, proposed the following:
- Best Young Male Athletes of Montenegro in 2025: Strahinja Gojković (water polo) and Matija Roganović (boxing)
- Best Young Female Athlete of Montenegro in 2025: Martina Knežević (handball)
- Best Men’s National Team of Montenegro in 2025: Montenegro Men’s Senior Water Polo National Team
- Best Women’s National Team of Montenegro in 2025: Montenegro Women’s Senior Handball National Team
The awards ceremony will be held at Villa Gorica on Tuesday, 23 December, starting at 12:00.
This year as well, Radio Television of Montenegro will provide a live broadcast of the ceremony, enabling the wider public to be part of an event that recognises outstanding sporting achievements and sporting values.
At the awards ceremony, the attendees will be addressed by the President of Montenegro, Mr Jakov Milatović, the Minister of Sports and Youth, Mr Dragoslav Šćekić, as well as the host, the President of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, Mr Dušan Simonović.
Through these decisions, the Montenegrin Olympic Committee clearly affirms achievements accomplished at the highest international level and demonstrates strong support for athletes and national teams who, throughout 2025, set high standards of performance and successfully represented Montenegro on the international sporting stage. The selection of award recipients was conducted fully in accordance with the Rulebook on the Selection of the Best Athletes and National Teams of Montenegro, which clearly and precisely defines the conditions, criteria and selection procedure. In line with the Rulebook, only results achieved at official international competitions were taken into consideration, with a clearly established ranking priority, whereby results in sports included in the official programme of the Olympic Games carry particular significance. The selection process included the nomination phase by national sports federations, expert evaluation of sporting achievements, and decision-making by the competent bodies of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, thereby ensuring transparency, comparability of results and consistent application of the established criteria
