Happy National Teams Day!

Greeting from the President of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, Dušan Simonović, on the occasion of National Teams Day.

There are days that carry a special energy, and National Teams Day is one of them.

It is a day when we are reminded that the jersey bearing the national emblem is not just sports equipment, but a symbol of trust, responsibility and the honour of representing Montenegro on the international stage.

Every appearance in that jersey is more than a sporting competition. It is the moment when one flag brings an entire country together around one team, one goal and a shared ambition.

In the year when we mark the 20th anniversary of the restoration of independence, we recall with particular respect the first appearances of our athletes under the Montenegrin flag and the path our sport has travelled from 2006 to the present day. From the first international competitions to Olympic medals and great victories, but also difficult defeats, Montenegrin sport has grown into a symbol of perseverance, talent and unity.

Behind every result stand hard work, discipline and true dedication. To be a national team athlete means representing your country with dignity, in victory and in defeat, always giving your best and carrying Montenegro in your heart.

Happy National Teams Day!

On the occasion of National Teams Day, the Ministry of Sports and Youth organised an event dedicated to the promotion of sport and the athletes who represent Montenegro on the international stage, held in the sports and recreational area of the Morača Sports Centre. The Montenegrin Olympic Committee supported the organisation of the event by providing gifts for the children who took part in the sports programme.

The event was opened by Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, who emphasised that young athletes are the best ambassadors of the country.

“Every appearance in the jersey bearing the national emblem carries a special responsibility, but also the strong support of the state and its citizens. In both victory and defeat, you have behind you a country that values every drop of sweat and everything you invest in achieving top results,” Spajić stated.

The Prime Minister also announced the continued development of sports infrastructure, including the construction of an indoor Olympic swimming pool within the Morača Sports Centre complex, as well as the organisation of major international competitions in Montenegro, among them the European Championships in volleyball and karate, with the possibility of hosting the European Water Polo Championship as well.

The marking of National Teams Day was also attended by the Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, Prof. Dr Anđela Jakšić-Stojanović, the Mayor of Podgorica, Prof. Dr Saša Mujović, and the President of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, Dušan Simonović.

As part of the programme, children from sports federations took part in the recreational sports programme “Games Without Borders”, promoting team spirit, friendship and a love of sport.
