Montenegrin Olympic Committee at international training on Olympic education in Lithuania

Birštonas, Lithuania hosted an international training program related to the Olympic Education Program, which was held from November 18 to 26, 2024.

The training was organized by the Lithuanian National Olympic Committee, with the support of Olympic Solidarity and the Erasmus+ program of the European Union. Representatives from 17 countries participated in this event: Albania, Germany, Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Montenegro, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Serbia and Turkey.

The representative of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee was Maja Peković, Deputy Secretary General of the Olympic Committee, who, together with the other participants, had the opportunity to improve knowledge about sports and physical activity as educational tools. The focus of the training was on value education methodologies, the principles of informal education, the development of 21st century competencies through Olympic education, and understanding the psychological and sociological characteristics of children and youth in modern society.

During this week, participants worked in groups, tested tasks from the OVEP program of the International Olympic Committee, participated in discussions and exchanges of ideas, and created workshops for their colleagues. This training allowed the participants to further develop their skills and strengthen the implementation of Olympic education programs in their countries.

In addition, the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation of Montenegro supported the initiative of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee for the implementation of the OVEP program in primary schools. The Institute of Education proposed that this program be realized through the open part of the existing subject programs – Physical Education and Sports for Athletes. This approach enables the inclusion of Olympic values in the educational system, improving students’ awareness of the importance of sports, a healthy lifestyle and the universal values that sports promote.

The Montenegrin Olympic Committee continues to actively contribute to the promotion of Olympic values and education, with the aim of making sports and physical activity powerful tools for the development of society.
