Dušan Simonović president of MOC for another four years

The Election Assembly of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee (COC) was held today in Podgorica, which was attended by 43 out of a total of 49 members, as well as honorary members of the COC.

The session was attended by 35 out of 36 members of the COK Assembly who have the right to participate in voting for the COK president, thus achieving the quorum needed to hold the session and make decisions.

Dušan Simonović is the president of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee (COC) for the next four years – the Assembly of the COC decided by an overwhelming majority of votes.

Members of the Assembly with the right to vote for the president are made up of two representatives each from the Olympic sports federation, four representatives are nominated by the Club of Montenegrin Olympians, and two by the Sports Commission.

23 out of 35 members of the Assembly voted for the re-election of Dusan Simonović.

12 members of the Assembly voted for the opponent, Katarina Bulatović, otherwise the director of COK.

The Electoral Assembly was held in the University Sports and Cultural Center. Previously, eight national sports federations ran for Simonović’s new mandate, and three for Bulatović’s.

After the election of the president, the election of the members of the Administrative and Supervisory Board of COK began. President Simonović proposed the composition of both committees, which the members of the Assembly accepted by voting.

After the Assembly session, the President of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee addressed the journalists:

“Sports and fair play won.

The Montenegrin Olympic Committee will remain a national Olympic sports organization in the future, dedicated exclusively to the affirmation of sports. In the coming period, we will fulfill that mission even more intensively, more dedicatedly and with an even stronger articulation of the desire that COK remains precisely the Montenegrin umbrella sports organization and that no one will ever have the opportunity to threaten such an orientation of ours.

It is a great honor, but also a responsibility, to be re-elected president of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee. I am grateful for the trust shown in me by all those who unwaveringly believe in the vision and the direction we are moving. I am even more grateful to those who tried to disrupt and change that direction, with the hidden vision of subordinating COK to some other interests. Thanks to them because they clearly showed us what the Montenegrin Olympic Committee should become.

I don’t see this re-election only as recognition for previous work, but as an opportunity to continue building an even stronger and more successful Montenegrin Olympic family together with our athletes, clubs and associations.

We have new challenges ahead of us, but I believe that with joint work, dedication and commitment we can achieve great things on the international stage. Our country has enormous sports potential, and my mission remains unchanged – creating the best conditions for the development of athletes, strengthening the infrastructure and promoting the Olympic values that connect us all. Affirmation, not only of our sport, but also of Montenegro as a country.

Thank you to everyone who is part of this journey, and I am happy that together we will continue to write new pages of Montenegrin sports success”.

This is Simonović’s sixth mandate, and he was elected president of the COC for the first time on May 28, 2003, after which he modernized the working conditions of the COC, implemented a number of projects aimed at popularizing the idea of Olympism in our region, and introduced the Montenegrin Olympic Committee into full membership of the International Olympic Committee.
