History and Foundation
The Montenegrin Olympic Committee (COK) was formed at the end of 2006 after Montenegro regained its independence, which created an institutional framework for independent participation in international sports competitions.The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognized the Montenegrin Olympic Committee on July 7, 2007, at the 119th session held in Guatemala, making Montenegro formally the 204th member state of the Olympic family. Thanks to this recognition, Montenegrin athletes performed for the first time under the national flag at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008.The Montenegrin Olympic Committee is the umbrella sports association in Montenegro, with the task of representing Montenegro in the International Olympic Committee and other international sports organizations, promoting and developing Olympic values and sports at the national and international level, promoting Montenegro in the world and supporting the development of top sports in Montenegro. COK cooperates with the Government and its departments, especially with the Ministry of Sports and Youth, but also with sports organizations in the country, in order to ensure quality support for Montenegrin sportsmen and women, to present the country at international sports competitions and to present Montenegro as well as possible on the international stage through sports and the Olympic movement. COK also plays a role in the promotion of Olympic values and the affirmation of Montenegrin sportsmen and women on the international stage. In addition, as an umbrella association, it unifies and directs the work of Montenegrin sports associations. The Olympic Games represent the biggest event in the world of sports, and the Montenegrin Olympic Committee plays a leading role in preparing and sending athletes to the Olympic Games and other competitions under the auspices of the IOC, providing them with professional, logistical and financial support. In addition, COK plays an important role in the promotion of sports and healthy lifestyles in Montenegro, and in the development of sports programs and projects in the country. COK also provides support to young athletes and provides them with conditions for development and progress in sports, within the framework of its plans and program activities.The Montenegrin Olympic Committee also plays an important role in international relations, performing a kind of sports diplomacy in that segment. As the National Olympic Committee, COK is part of the international Olympic family that gathers all the national Olympic committees around the world, 206 of them at the moment, and from that position is able to promote Montenegro and its cultural and economic potential, as well as to improve international relations and cooperation.In order to fulfill that role, the COC is actively engaged in the international arena, developing and strengthening its ties with other national Olympic committees and sports organizations around the world.In terms of international cooperation, the COC has various activities, including participation in international sports competitions, exchange of experience and knowledge with other national Olympic committees, as well as participation in the activities of international and continental organizations, such as the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), European Olympic Committees (EOC), International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG), Games of Small Countries of Europe (IMZE) and others.On the national level, COK has the opportunity to, directly or indirectly, contribute to the development of the Montenegrin economy, especially in the area of sports tourism, where its role is of exceptional importance and which will gain more and more importance in the future.

MISSION: Creation of a sustainable and efficient system for the development of Montenegrin sports, promotion of Olympic values and healthy lifestyles, promotion of Montenegro in the world and positioning of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee as an umbrella sports organization in Montenegro.
VISION: Sport as a driving force for the development of society, which will enable the most talented people to advance and achieve top sports results, and position Montenegro among the leading sports nations in the region.
