The Montenegrin Olympic Committee, with the support of Olympic Solidarity, is proud to announce the workshop Improving the health and performance of female athletes, which will be held from October 1 to 3, 2024, at the Hilton Hotel (Crystal Hall) in Podgorica.
This revolutionary event will focus on improving the health of female athletes, with the participation of internationally recognized experts from Harvard Medical School and Boston Children’s Hospital who will share their knowledge and experience in the field of sports medicine.
Workshops will be held daily from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, with a rich program that will address the specific health challenges faced by female athletes at all levels of competition. Topics include the latest research on relative energy deficits in sport (REDs), strategies for mental health, bone health, nutrition, and pregnancy and postpartum considerations for female athletes. The sessions will combine lectures by leading experts with interactive clinical studies, giving participants the opportunity to deepen their practical understanding of these important topics.
This event is a must for coaches, health professionals in sports, doctors and all those involved in the sports community. Participants will have a unique opportunity to connect directly with some of the most respected experts in the field of female athletes’ health.
The lecturers at the workshops will be:
- dr. Stacey Schley, Harvard Medical School/Boston Children’s Hospital
dr. Schley is a leading expert in sports medicine with a special focus on the health of female athletes. She has extensive experience in working with female athletes at different levels, from local to elite athletes. At the workshop, he will talk about menstrual disorders, contraception, and training during pregnancy and after childbirth.
- Meghan Keating, MPAS, PA-C, Boston Children’s Hospital
An experienced sports medicine physician assistant, Meghan Keating has dedicated her career to managing relative energy deficits in sports (REDs) and other health issues specific to female athletes. He will lecture on bone health, injury prevention and clinical management of REDs.
- Laura Moretti Reece, MS, RD, CSSD, LDN
Laura is a registered nutritionist with extensive experience in sports nutrition. She will share insights into the nutritional needs of female athletes, helping participants understand how to eat properly for optimal performance and recovery.
- Olivia Papakyrikos, MA, LMHC
Olivia is a licensed mental health counselor specializing in the psychological well-being of athletes. Her lecture will focus on resilience and mental health, offering strategies for managing stress and maintaining psychological health in a competitive environment.
