TARANTO 2026 – A Step Closer to the Games

The Deputy Secretary General of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, Maja Peković, was part of the delegation of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG) at the coordination meeting for the Mediterranean Games 2026, held in Taranto from 26 to 30 March.

This meeting marked the transition into the final phase of preparations for the Games. The focus was on concrete operational matters, from organisational progress to the alignment of all key stakeholders involved in delivering one of the largest multi-sport events in the region.

As part of the programme, a Heads of Mission Seminar was also held, attended by representatives of 26 National Olympic Committees from the Mediterranean region, technical delegates of international federations and experts from the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games. The Montenegrin delegation was represented by Maja Peković and Ivan Bošković, Head of Mission for Taranto 2026.

The seminar aimed to provide all delegations with a comprehensive overview of the Games’ organisation and to enable precise planning for participation. Through thematic sessions, key segments were presented, including the sports programme and competition venues, logistics, accommodation, and the technological solutions that will support the Games.

Site visits to sports venues were particularly valuable, allowing delegations to assess competition conditions firsthand.

The Mediterranean Games, held every four years, bring together countries from three continents — Europe, Africa and Asia — and are the region’s largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games. Since their first edition in 1951, the Games have preserved their core idea: to connect Mediterranean nations through sport and strengthen the spirit of cooperation, regardless of the differences that shape them.
