Dušan Simonović, President of NOC Montenegro, hosted celebrated Montenegrin athlete and NOC Montenegro scholarship holder Marija Vuković today, together with Milorad Vuletić, President of the Athletics Federation of Montenegro, and Milan Madžgalj, Secretary General of the Federation.
Marija has had a season to remember. This summer, she won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Birmingham, finished third at the Diamond League meeting in Zurich, and then claimed gold at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, successfully defending the title she won in Oran. Her outstanding season was recently crowned with another major recognition: Marija was named the 2026 Balkan Female Athlete of the Year.
During the meeting, Simonović reflected on Marija’s consistent results and her importance to Montenegrin sport.
“We are proud of Marija’s consistency and everything she has achieved over the years. She has twice been named Montenegro’s best female athlete and is a scholarship holder of NOC Montenegro. Her hard work, dedication, and energy are admirable, and they come with incredible results. Year after year, Marija confirms that she belongs among the very best in European and world athletics,” Simonović said.
