The Boxing Federation of Montenegro (BFM) has officially begun preparations for the World Boxing U19 Championships, which will take place in Budva from 14 to 28 October. Hosting rights were awarded by World Boxing, with the support of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Speaking at a press conference organised by the BFM on 2 July, NOC Montenegro President Dušan Simonović said that being awarded the event is a direct recognition of the reputation the federation has earned through the successful organisation of major international sporting events.
“Entrusting Montenegro with the organisation of such an important international competition is a great recognition for our sport and confirms that our country is recognised as a reliable and trusted host,” Simonović said.
He expressed confidence that the Organising Committee, with the support of all relevant institutions, would successfully meet this challenge and deliver the championships to the highest international standards.
During the event, Budva and Montenegro will welcome representatives from more than 80 countries across all continents and over 2,000 participants, together with a large number of officials, coaches, delegates and guests. According to the organisers, the championships are expected to generate approximately 37,500 overnight stays, delivering a significant boost to Montenegro’s economy and tourism sector.

BFM President Aleksandar Klemenko said that hosting rights are the result of years of dedicated work and experience in organising major competitions, adding that the championships will provide an excellent opportunity to showcase Montenegro as a country of elite sport, a reliable host and an attractive tourist destination.
The Ministry of Sport and Youth also confirmed its full support for the event. Director General for Sport Zoran Jojićdescribed the hosting rights as further evidence that Montenegro is recognised as a dependable partner on the international stage and noted that the championships would contribute to the promotion of boxing and the development of future generations of athletes.
BFM Director Dragoljub Radović reminded attendees that Budva will also host the European U17 Boxing Championships before the World Championships, pointing out that it is rare for a national federation to be entrusted with organising two major international championships in the same year.
Montenegro will be represented at the World Championships by Vuk Dabović (65kg), Matija Roganović (85kg) and Vasilije Kujundžić (90kg). National team coach Nikola Ružić expressed satisfaction with the progress of preparations, noting that the athletes continue to improve steadily and that sufficient time remains for the final phase of preparations ahead of the championships.
