Eighth Competition Day at the Mediterranean Games: Novo Raičević One Step Away from Bronze

Novo Raičević came within one step of winning a bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto. The Montenegrin judoka was defeated by ippon by Spain’s Daniel Nieto Trinidad in the bronze medal bout.

In the opening round of the under-90kg category, Raičević was defeated by ippon by Türkiye’s Emir Selim Ari, before beating Olympic bronze medallist Theodoros Tselidis of Greece in the repechage. Raičević then defeated Algeria’s Oussama Kabri by ippon to secure a place in the bronze medal bout.

Tomić stopped in opening bout — Aleksandar Tomić, Montenegro’s other judo representative, was defeated in his opening bout in the under-100kg category by Kosovo’s Shpati Zekaj after receiving a penalty.

Šaranović 18th in 10m air pistol — Nevena Šaranović finished 18th in the 10m air pistol qualification. Making her Mediterranean Games debut, she completed the qualification with a score of 557, below her career best of 575.

“It is an honour to have had the opportunity to compete at the Mediterranean Games. I am not really satisfied with the result. It could have been much better. There were a lot of shots that were nines close to the centre, and had they been just a little better, I would have had a chance of reaching the final. I fought until the very last shot, and it was demanding. I am proud of what I did,” Šaranović said.
