Marija Vuković won the gold medal at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto. The Montenegrin athlete triumphed in the high jump after clearing 194 centimetres.
This is Montenegro’s third medal in Taranto, following bronze medals won by bocce player Gracija Stjepčević and boxer Bojana Gojković.
“It was difficult, but my only goal was to defend my title. I really gave everything I had. The warm-up was difficult as well, and I thought I would not manage, but I eventually found my run-up and achieved what I came here to do. And here it is – gold for Montenegro,” Vuković said.
Vuković thus continued her run of excellent results. “When you get to this age, everything is easy,” she said with a smile. “It is difficult, but it is also easy because it is beautiful. As I said, I am grateful to be healthy and able to compete at this level. Clearing 194 after Zurich is a big achievement. I do not even know how I managed it myself, but I have enormous motivation and I also had good preparation. It paid off. Everything fell into place,” Vuković said.
Dukić takes the lead — Milivoj Dukić moved into first place in the overall standings following the seventh and eighth sailing races. Dukić finished second in the seventh race and third in the eighth to take the overall lead in a field of 19 sailors. In the same class, ILCA 7, Ilija Marković finished 12th in the seventh race but did not finish the eighth. Marković currently sits 19th overall.
Three races remain until the end of the competition.
