The Montenegro water polo team won the silver medal at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto after losing 18–14 to hosts Italy in the final.
Italy made the stronger start and took a 3–0 lead, before the “Sharks”, led by an in-form Vasilije Radović, responded with four unanswered goals to turn the score around. However, the hosts regained control as the match progressed and maintained their advantage until the final whistle.
Montenegro reached the final with a perfect record, defeating Greece, Serbia and Slovenia in the group stage before overcoming Spain in the semi-final.
