The FuturePlay event, organised by the NGO CAMS in Nikšić on 26 February, provided an excellent opportunity to discuss important topics and the future of young athletes.
Maja Peković, Deputy Secretary General of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, together with Dr Ivana Jovetić (University of Donja Gorica), actively participated in the panel “Raising Awareness and Understanding the Concept of Dual Careers in Sport”.
During the panel, moderated by Danilo Petrović, Maja Peković emphasised that “a dual career is not a backup plan. It is not ‘what we do after sport’. It is the way we build stable, mature and responsible individuals while they are actively engaged in sport and competition. In today’s world, where a sporting career is short and uncertain, a dual career is not an option but a responsibility of the system. In modern sport, it represents a mechanism for long-term sustainability, mental stability and the systemic development of sport.”
Through this and other panels, as well as a workshop for young athletes, discussions were opened on the concept of dual careers and entrepreneurship, as well as on thinking about professional pathways beyond sport, with the aim of jointly building a support system that gives young people more choices and a more secure future.
