Representatives of the NOC Montenegro participated in the national conference “Sport Diplomacy: Policies, Practices and Future Opportunities for the Strategic Use of Sport in Advancing National and Diplomatic Interests”, organised by the Olympic Committee of North Macedonia.
The conference brought together representatives and leaders of Olympic Committees from the Western Balkans and the wider region, alongside ambassadors and institutional representatives, with the aim of exchanging experiences on how sport can contribute to regional dialogue, international visibility, and the strengthening of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.NOC Montenegro Secretary General Andrija Popović spoke at the panel “Sport as a Tool for Diplomacy: Regional Perspectives and Challenges”, where he exchanged views with colleagues from the Olympic Committees of North Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Bulgaria on regional perspectives and challenges in using sport as a tool of diplomacy.
The event was also attended on behalf of the NOC Montenegro by Mladen Vlahović.
The central moment of the conference was the ceremonial signing marking the establishment of the Regional Hub for Sports Diplomacy, a joint initiative of the Olympic Committees of the Western Balkans led by the Olympic Committee of North Macedonia. The platform aims to strengthen a coordinated regional approach to sports diplomacy, enhance the role of sports institutions, and support cross-border cooperation in the service of partnership and sustainable development.
Through its participation in this event, the NOC Montenegro reaffirms its commitment to regional cooperation and to sport as a space for collaboration, trust and joint action in international relations.
