Part of Team Montenegro Arrives in Taranto Ahead of First Events on 22 August

Part of the Montenegrin sports delegation has arrived in Italy, where competition at the 20th Mediterranean Games in Taranto will begin for our athletes on 22 August.

Representatives of padel, boxing, swimming, bocce and taekwondo have arrived in Italy. Following a somewhat demanding journey from Montenegro to the Puglia region, our athletes completed their first training sessions, while the Montenegrin flag was raised in the Mediterranean Village.

A day earlier, on 21 August, boxer Bojana Gojković and swimmer Miloš Milenković will carry the Montenegrin flag at the Opening Ceremony.

Montenegro will compete in 13 sports in Taranto, with water polo as the only team sport. The Games will also mark a special milestone for Montenegro’s padel team, which will make its Mediterranean Games debut.

Boxer athlete Bojana Gojković said it was a great honour to lead the Montenegrin delegation at the Opening Ceremony.

“It is a great honour for me to carry the Montenegrin flag on 21 August. We are currently completing both our mental and physical preparations, while also working on making weight. I hope we will win medals,” Gojković said.

Taekwondo athlete Anđela Berišaj said she is feeling ready for the start of competition.

“I feel fantastic. We have been preparing for a long period and strong competition awaits us at the Games. However, we know why we came to Italy. Personally, I know what I am capable of and I know that this top level belongs to me,” Berišaj said.
